I spent a good half hour organising my bookshelf according to genre (because it isn’t my final year of uni, I don’t have three dissertations to write or course reading to chew my fingers over, no, of course I don’t).
The result was something like this
unread, too damn good to categorise (Man’s Search For Meaning by Vicktor Frankl; The Secret History by Donna Tartt; The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder), plays and poetry, short stories, coming of age, prose to die/kill for, the philosophical novel, magical realism, humanity, academic poetry (ie. foucault/weil/nietzsche), children’s books, non-fiction, memoirs, course related.
Note the position of ‘course related’.
